RF Microneedling

Did you know we lose as much as 1% of our body’s natural collagen every year once we reach our late 20s? It’s true—and that’s the cause of wrinkles, skin laxity, and many other unwanted signs of aging. You can replenish this lost collagen and rejuvenate your skin with INTRAcel® RF microneedling, available at our Ankeny dermatology clinic and spa near Des Moines, IA.

This FDA-cleared treatment boosts the production of our skin’s structural proteins to reverse signs of aging and even minimize scarring or stretch marks, all without the downtime or invasiveness of surgery.

How Does RF Microneedling Work?

INTRAcel uses fractional microneedles and noninvasive electrodes to deliver radiofrequency (RF) heat energy into the middle layer of your skin (the dermis). The heat energy causes controlled damage in the treated area, triggering a repair response from the body. Simply put, the proteins that make your skin firm and strong—collagen and elastin—are stimulated to rebuild and renew the area. That means you get thicker, firmer, tighter, and more rejuvenated skin.

What Does RF Microneedling Treat?

How does RF microneedling for excessive sweating work?

Our device has a special mode that allows us to actually eliminate many sweat glands in the axillary area. Most patients report a 50% improvement after 1 treatment. Number of treatments vary 2-5 for permanent or very long lasting results. We space out the treatments every 6 weeks.

What Is It Like To Have RF Microneedling Done?

Here’s what to expect during your INTRAcel treatment:

  • Your provider starts by placing the device’s handpiece over your skin.
  • The microneedles project from the handpiece and penetrate the top layer of your skin.
  • Radiofrequency is transmitted through the insulated needles.
The needles withdraw from your skin and the handpiece is moved to the next area to repeat the process.
  • Treatments take anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the size of the area you’re looking to treat.

Does RF Microneedling Hurt?

Your experienced provider will apply a topical anesthetic before your treatment begins to make sure you’re comfortable from start to finish. You may feel a prickling sensation and some heat.

What Is Recovery Like After RF Microneedling?

Expect to have some redness, swelling, and sensitivity for a few days following your treatment. You can care for your skin by applying SPF, avoiding direct sun exposure, and keeping it hydrated with a gentle, unscented moisturizer. Your provider will discuss your aftercare instructions in-depth before you head home. Most people can reapply makeup after 2 to 3 days, once the punctures in their skin have healed.

When Will I See Results After RF Microneedling?

You’ll likely notice a difference in your skin after the first week or so, but improvements will continue for as long as 6 months as new collagen develops. Most people need 1 to 3 treatments spaced about a month apart to see their best results.

How Much Does RF Microneedling Cost?

The price of INTRAcel RF microneedling at our Des Moines-area med spa varies from person to person, depending on the size of the treatment area and the number of sessions needed. We will provide a personalized pricing estimate during your consultation with details about your expected costs.
