How Does BOTOX Work?
BOTOX and Dysport are injectables called neuromodulators or neurotoxins. They work by interrupting the signals from your brain telling specific muscles to contract. Less muscle movement means fewer “dynamic wrinkles”—the lines that form when you squint, frown, raise your eyebrows, and more. Getting regular dosing every 3-4 months, will keep your results lasting longer. Dosing does equal duration.
While these injections do limit muscle movement, you don’t have to worry about looking “frozen” or unnatural. What Does BOTOX Treat?
Maybe a better question to ask would be, what doesn’t it treat!
BOTOX is fantastic for treating wrinkles caused by repeated muscle movements, such as:
- Frown lines, or vertical “11s” between the eyebrows
- Horizontal forehead furrows
- Crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes
- Bunny lines on the nose
It’s important to not only treat the upper face with Botox Cosmetic, because it will age much slower than the lower part of the face. We recommend treating the lower face and neck 2-3 times a year as well.
BOTOX also treats gummy smiles and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). When injected into the masseter muscle in the jaw, it can also slim the jawline and reduce symptoms of TMJ (temporomandibular joint dysfunction). What Is It Like To Get BOTOX?
BOTOX appointments typically take less than 20 minutes. We’ll start by bringing you back to a treatment room and having a thorough discussion about your current concerns and what you’re looking for. Your injector will work with you to create your own fully customized treatment plan.
After cleansing the treatment area, your injector will use a tiny needle to inject BOTOX directly into the targeted muscles. Most people say these injections just feel like a few quick pinches. After that, you’re on your way!
How Long Do BOTOX Results Last?
Your results will take a few days to appear and will last up to 4 months before naturally wearing off, when dosed appropriately.
What Is BOTOX Recovery Like?
One of the biggest benefits of BOTOX is that it requires little to no recovery time. You may have a little redness around your injection sites for the next few hours, but this should subside on its own. We do not recommend getting Botox for the first time , before a big event, within 2-3 weeks of the event.
It’s best to hold off lying down, massaging the area, working out intensely, wearing hats, getting facials or massages, or doing activities that may increase blood flow to your head for the next several hours. This gives the product time to settle and prevents it from spreading to any other areas. We also recommend avoiding wearing hats for 24 hours.
How Much Does BOTOX Cost?
